Module 06

Ethics & Sustainability

Where Module 03 covers responsible adoption inside your organization, this module covers the impact of your AI use on everyone outside it. The energy footprint, the people affected, the customers and regulators you owe transparency to, and the systems that depend on you. Honest numbers, not lectures. By the end, your team will be able to defend its AI choices to the people who matter most.

What participants will be able to do

  • Cite real, defensible numbers for the energy and water cost of an AI query, an image, and a video. Reframe the conversation away from catastrophizing and dismissal.
  • Identify which of your AI use cases concentrate environmental cost (continuous agents, video pipelines, custom training) and which are rounding error.
  • Decide when AI involvement should be disclosed to customers, employees, or regulators, and design a defensible disclosure stance.
  • Evaluate where training data came from for the models you use and what that means for IP, consent, and liability.
  • Take a clear position on AI's impact on your workforce, including what you owe people whose jobs change.
  • Reduce vendor concentration risk and have a continuity plan if your primary AI provider becomes unavailable, expensive, or untrustworthy.

What we cover

Environmental Cost

Real numbers for energy, water, and carbon per query, per image, and per second of video. How those costs compare to a Google search, a microwave, an EV mile, and a flight. Where in your own AI pipeline the cost actually concentrates.

Disclosure & Transparency

When AI involvement should be disclosed, who you owe that disclosure to, and what regulators are signaling. Industry-specific patterns for healthcare, finance, legal, and other regulated sectors.

Training Data Ethics

Where the models you use were trained, what consent and compensation looked like, and what that means for your downstream liability. Whether your team's data is being used to train future models, and how to control that.

Workforce Impact

A practical framework for thinking about AI's effect on your team, beyond "will AI take jobs?" Reskilling commitments, communication patterns, and how to handle role changes without losing trust.

Information Integrity

Your responsibility around synthetic content and deepfakes, both inbound (verifying what comes at you) and outbound (attribution for what your team produces). Provenance standards and where the regulation is heading.

Vendor Concentration

If your primary AI provider doubled their price, changed their data policy, or went away tomorrow, what would happen? A continuity plan is part of ethical practice.

Workshop: Ethics Review

Bring one of your live or planned AI use cases. We run it through every framework above and produce your AI Ethics & Sustainability Quick-Reference. By the end of the session, you can defend that use case to a customer, an employee, a board, or a regulator.

Deliverable

AI Ethics & Sustainability Quick-Reference

A board-ready 1-pager that audits a planned AI initiative against environmental cost, disclosure obligations, training data ethics, workforce impact, information integrity, and vendor risk. Use it on every AI investment decision before the check is signed.
